I travelled to some coniferous/heathland today to see if the bird that likes to sing "Shout" was floating among the pylons, but there was no sign. They had been singing there for the last 2 years in similar light conditions at this time of year, but it has been a lot colder, so they may be late turning up & tuning up this year. The Jays were also absent, and the Green Woodpeckers were very distant, so I concentrated on the birds in the car park instead. It was actually quite rewarding waiting patiently for fairly common birds to come close enough to have their picture taken. OK, so the reserve doesn't have the variety of species to be found at Forge Valley, but the light conditions can be a little better! There were both Willow Tits & Marsh Tits at this site, which contradicts the urban myth that they can't co-exist.
