Love this shape & the fact it seems to be almost leaving its feet behind!
After a run of easterlies & sea mists I thought Spurn was going to be a sure-fire hit. However, despite very close views of a Pied Wagtail & Meadow Pipit, and distant views of a Chiffchaff it was almost like watching paint dry. It stayed misty all morning & the light conditions were awful, so I didn't really expect any of the pictures to come out. Before abandoning the site I popped over to Sammy's Point to have my sarnies, and nearly left, as everything looked so bleak. Where were all the Yellow Wagtails & Wheatears near the horses? - absolutely no sign. I persevered & found a Black Redstart. Of course it wasn't a stonking male, but a nice bird nevertheless, though she only allowed a couple of record shots before scooting off. Returned via Patrington Haven, Sunk Island & Stone Creek. Very quiet here, as the levels of Holderness waited with baited breath for the influx of Yellow Wagtails, Wheatears and Swallows, but it was enlivened by a Little Egret, which allowed me to approach quite close in the car for once! Forecast looks excellent for Spurn on Monday, so may give it another try!
