Today the class popped over to Wildlife Photographer, and erstwhile Yorkshire eBirder, Marcus Conway's favourite Yorkshire site. A very strong wind which wasn't forecast greeted us in the car park, but despite this we still manged to see some good quality birds. The morning class shared cars to Filey Dams where we had good views of Black-tailed Godwit and Teal. At the viewing platform I was just mentioning it was a good site for Water Vole when right-on-cue Pat C spotted the furry friend pictured above. We went back to the Country Park and had a dangerous walk on the Brigg in the high winds. Some Gannets were out at sea, but the best birds around there were the flock of mainly drake Eider, which flew fairly close to us. The best views of the waders was waiting for us on the return journey where we had confiding close-ups of Knot, Oystercatcher, and Turnstone. In the afternoon we went down to the beach but because the tide was coming in quickly the views of the waders were more distant. The 2 male Stonechats spotted by Barbara, and the Kestrel were new birds for the day. We went off to Filey Dams and had much better views of Snipe and there were some distant Dunlin, but the rest of the birds were identical to the morning visit. Footnote: bumped into Hotspur & the new bouncing bambino in the gale force winds in the Country Park. Nice to see he's getting her acquainted with the great outdoors at such an early stage!
