Half of Classes Finish for Summer Break

On Tuesday we had our only visit to Thixendale.  We did manage to find a Tawny Owl, but it only flew over our heads, and I didn't manage to photograph it.  Some Meadow Pipits were quite confiding, but birds were rather few and far between.  A Red Kite was another highlight.  However, butterflies and day-flying moths were more abundant.

On Thursday we parked in Millington Wood and walked around Millington Pastures.  We found either a young or female Redstart, which was nice.  We found a corner of a field, which was almost like a meadow.  It was covered in wild flowers and humming with insects and silent butterflies.

On Friday we had our only visit of the year to Oakhill.  The star bird was a Kingfisher.  The morning group also glimpsed a Turtle Dove but the light was so bad, it could have almost been any other member of the pigeon family.
