Icterine Half-Term

Icterine Warbler
One day last week we returned home to find a Wren had been pulled out of the nest. By evening all the nestlings had perished.

One day last week the only bird worth photographing at Kilnsea was an Avocet.

On another day Alkborough Flats was surprisingly poor, although a Bittern did fly in.

This has been the poorest year for the Moth Trap, although one day last week was quite productive.

Just before the classes resumed on Tuesday I heard about an Icterine Warbler at Kilnsea, so after missing one 30 years ago, I thought I'd have a look for this one. I heard a snatch of its complicated song before seeing it in the garden of Kew Villa.  This time I was lucky...

On one day last week, the weather wasn't too bad, so I had a look at Sutton Bank, but rain clouds threatened and curtailed the visit.

After the Icterine Warbler I had a look at my puddle at Patrington Haven.  It was like being greeted by an old friend.

On a muck-heap at Cherry Cobb Sands the song of a Skylark broke through the closed car window.
