On Sentry Duty

Now, some of my 'students' are beginning to take photos of birds outside of the classes.  This particular extra-curricular activity consists of photographs of just one individual bird - a male Sparrowhawk on sentry duty.  As you can see his eyes are never at rest, glancing to the right, the left, and straight-ahead before he takes off on a hunting foray.  Will he visit again in the spring when he will have a more photogenic background to set off his colourful flanks.

Meanwhile, our visitor who enjoyed baths in the late spring, summer and early autumn has failed to reappear.  Fingers-crossed he returns in the spring.  They certainly are smart birds.
