Raining on Friday afternoon
The weather forecast was pretty dreadful for Tuesday, so Bearded Tits were abandoned for Tophill Low. In fact we went to Tophill Low every day except Wednesday, when we travelled to RSPB Blacktoft Sands. On Tuesday it started to drizzle as we were about to set off, but it wasn't too bad at first. We headed straight for South Marsh East, and enjoyed some good views of Kingfisher, Little Egret, Teal and Gadwall, with a pair of Pintail a little further off. Also, at a distance were a pair of Snipe first spotted by David. Steve noticed two Dunlin-like birds much further off. One of these must have been a White-rumped Sandpiper, mustn't it?

On Thursday we returned to Tophill Low, as it was far too windy for the Humber. The star photo was a diving Kingfisher taken by Paul Green.

We returned to Tophill for the third and final time on Friday, and made straight for South Marsh East. The Greenshank, Green Sandpipers and a Kingfisher seemed particularly confiding. In the afternoon the rain was extremely heavy, but luckily only for a brief time.

Leaving the Back-to-Back Hides we came across a gent looking through the egg boxes in the moth trap. He'd already released the most special find, but we did have the chance of observing some interesting species at close quarters.
