Final Owl Safaris

At the weekend the final 2 Owl Safaris took place. The Tawnies were slightly harder to find in the trees, and weren't as obliging coming down to the food. It's not known for certain if it was the overally warm weather, or the building works around their feeding area. A Marbled White was found in the Orchid Meadow, whilst some saw the badgers within a few feet & others didn't see them at all. Although the final session wasn't up to the earlier visits, everyone still enjoyed themselves & did have some very good sightings.

A Relaxing Hobby

Yesterday saw our 2nd & final visit to a badly damaged habitat. Despite this we saw several interesting species, including Marsh Harriers, Yellowhammers, Reed Buntings and whole families of Long-tailed Tits, Whitehtroats & Blue Tits. The m orning session had excellent views of Brown Hawker dragonflies and a Hobby, but neither of these could be rellocated after lunch. A faint Grasshopper Warbler could just be discerned by some class members during the morning visit. The pm session made it down to the river where they saw Black-tailed Godwits, Lesser Black Backed & Herring Gulls. Butterflies were well represented with Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell and our first Gatekeeper of the season. Hopefully, this wilderness area won't undergo any further destruction, and the wildlife may return once all the construction work has been completed.
