Return to Tophill and Kilnsea

Wednesday morning was our first socially-distanced visit to Tophill Low, and our first this year. The first bird we saw was a Black-necked Grebe in breeding plumage from reception hide. From North Lagoon we saw two fledgling Reed Warblers right outside the hide with their parent. Before we reached SME we saw 2 Willow Tits obviously staying together. There were at least 3 Green Sandpipers on SME, and possibly up to 20 Sand Martins on SMW. On the return journey we saw a family party of 7 Mistle Thrushes, a record number for me on this site.

The Thursday class was at Kilnsea, which had been invaded by grockles.  We saw distant views of Red-backed Shrike, Whinchat and Barred Warbler, but extremely close views of baby Swallows, Green and Common Sandpipers and a Snipe.  The Swallows and Snipe photos are from earlier in the week.
