Before Lockdown - Birds of Rajasthan (Northern India)

A resident of South Cave missed the last four sessions of the winter term because she was on a holiday, well three because she was on holiday, and an extra one because she came back with something akin to Delhi belly!  Because of the lockdown she has had time to go through the many photos she took there.  These are the best.   [The names given are the ones I've been sent, but if anyone knows anything different please let me know.]

Lockdown - Bluebells & Others

This morning I had a road to Damascus moment, and realised that the Hull to Withernsea railway line runs just behind the cemetery, so for my exercise today I walked along there to beyond Hedon.  I reached somewhere all groups should have been visiting in May.  The morning was overcast, so there weren’t that many songbirds, but there were plenty of Whitethroats.  I saw a silent Cuckoo, but it only flew over.  The sky was very threatening, and there were even a few drops of rain, and no one else about, so social distancing was easy.  I managed to make a few short videos, whilst I was there.

Meanwhile, someone who lives close to a Bluebell Wood mentioned that the Bluebells are at their best at the moment, so if you have withdrawal systems, here are some beautiful blooms

Sri Lankan Wildlife Before Lockdown 2

The Ossett couple missed the last three sessions of the winter term because they were going on a joint Cricket/Wildlife holiday in Sri Lanka.  However, when they got there all the Cricket matches had been cancelled.  They just had to put up with the wildlife instead!  These are just the photographs of the most easily identifiable wildlife they saw and photographed.  In all they photographed 168 species of bird!  This is the second large segment, the earlier one may be seen by clicking previous page at the bottom of this page several times.   [The names given are the ones I've been sent, but if anyone knows anything different please let me know.]

Lockdown - Signs of Spring

Things are starting to pick up.  We've now had a Whitethroat in the garden, and a Swallow over the drain behind the cemetery, but the prize must go to a Weds am participant.  Sue went to work on Thursday as 'normal' and was astounded to watch for over 20 minutes - a Hoopoe!  On Sunday another, or the same one was reported from Peasholme Park in Scarborough and videoed.  If it stays fairly dry in these parts you may get something rather unusual in the garden.  I'm still waiting for a Bee-eater!

One positive aspect of the lockdown, is that I'm now receiving photos from people who have never sent any in the past.
This morning's video is on a Wren, I talk about its song and the male's nest-building activities here
