The weather was OK for our exposed location today, but because the winds weren't from the right direction we weren't inundated with unusual species or quantities of common birds. The difference between timings was really noticeable today. In the morning we heard & saw about 100 Skylarks, while this afternoon there wasn't a single one! There were also more Kestrels, Linnets, Goldfinches and Red-legged Partridges during the morning, plus the almost tame sole Wheatear was another morning sighting. The butterflies and dragonflies were more numerous in the afternoon sunshine, which isn't really surprising. I suggested the class stop off at Tophill on the way back for the Red-footed Falcon - hope they saw it!
