A recce to Thorne Moors today with Maurice to look at the possibility of visiting this venue during the summer term. We saw and heard a wide selection of birds, but didn’t have really close views of many. Birds seen included: Willow Warbler (heard, first of year), Lesser Redpoll, Marsh Harrier, Buzzard (poss), Wheatear, Chiffchaff, Curlew, Lapwing, Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting, Stock Dove, Teal, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Pheasant, Kestrel (pair nesting), Black-headed Gull, Woodpigeon, Green Woodpecker (h), Kingfisher (heard?), Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Tree Pipit (possible), Robin, Wren, Fieldfare (c.10), Goldcrest, Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Linnet & Bullfinch (poss). Also present c.6 Roe Deer & probably heard retreating Red Deer.
