Garden Warbler - No Distinguishing Features?
On a nithering Tuesday we ventured into Lincolnshire. There was a Garden Warbler in the car park, but we only obtained glimpses. 2 Common Terns eventually performed well near their raft.

When we reached the main lake the surface was swarming with dozens of hirundines - mainly Sand Martins & Swallows, but also at least a couple of House Martins.

On Wednesday we were at a woodland near York. There were 2 Mistle Thrushes in the paddocks behind the car park. We had only just passed through the gate when we heard the beautiful song of a Garden Warbler. It even perched in the open long enough for everyone to get a good view of it. A little further on we had at least 2 Treecreepers, whilst after lunch this was replaced by a sweet song I’ve never heard before - an atypical refrain from an aberrant Marsh Tit. Mistle Thrush |

There was an open area in the centre of the wood. The best bird here was a Tree Pipit, which performed well for both sessions. It was a “lifer” for some attendees. There was a Whitethroat and a few Linnets in the same general area.

There were more active Brimstones then I’d seen there since 1982. One female fascinated the group as she tried to repel the advances of an importunate male.

On Thursday the road to Millington Wood was closed, so we switched to the Robert Fuller Gallery. Jan found a Tawny Owl and higher up there was a chick. Everyone got to see them. We all heard a Redstart, but they just wouldn't show in the cool easterly wind.

I wasn’t able to attend on Friday, so checked it out on Monday and got a lovely ‘kind’ Garden Warbler in some bare willows. Unfortunately, this wasn’t replicated on Friday, but they did have a good encounter with a Great Spotted Woodpecker & a Treecreeper.
