Lockdown (Easing) a Very Red Redpoll

A final visit to the moors for a singing Whinchat in good light.  This mission failed, so I had to put up with Lesser Redpolls.

I've not had one of these in the trap before.  Not a wonderful colour, but still a gorgeous moth, and look at those antennea!

Lockdown (Easing) Treecreeper at the Nest

I was sat in my car with the window open, when my attention was drawn to a Treecreeper visiting a nest in a dead Elm tree.  The tree is half-swathed in Ivy.  One bird enters the nest below the fork, and may be seen feeding the young.  Meanwhile seconds later another Treecreeper seems to enter a nest above the fork in the tree.  Both birds are screened by the ivy leaves.  Surely two different Treecreepers wouldn't nest as close to each other as this?  If that's the case why would the birds have two different entrances to their nest?  Also included is an unusual nest site for a Blue Tit.

Lockdown (Easing) More Moorland Wildlife

In the quest for finding somewhere I can birdwatch in an under crowded location, I had another look at last week's moorland location.  It was noticeably quieter in bird terms than last week, despite a relatively calm morning after 3 days of "Autumnal" winds.  There were plenty of Meadow Pipits, but they don't present too many photographic opportunities.  The colours on a female Lapwing were the visual highlight of the morning.  Although it is still a relatively common bird, we don't often get the chance to sit this close to them, as we do when they stand right next to the road guarding their chicks in the long grass and heather.
