Weekend Rapture

On Sunday the weather wasn't too bad, so we looked for the Short-eared Owls again.  At first nothing happened, and it seemed as though it was too windy.  However, at nearly 4pm one was spotted sat on a hedge, and eventually it started quartering the clover field.  It had been doing so for over 30 mins before it was joined by the local Barn Owl.  However, the latter never came close enough for a photo.  The field was shared with 2 Kestrels.  One of these proved troublesome to the Short-eared Owl, and several photos show it keeping a wary eye on the Kestrel above it.

On Tuesday I checked on a venue we should be visiting after half-term.  It was muddy underfoot, but it should be manageable even by the most uncertain in boots.  Hopefully, we won't have any more exceptional rainfall before we visit. There was a strange pathetic sound as we approached the hide, and once we entered we could observe a single Male Marsh Harrier seemingly showing interest in two females.  We also had good views of Goldeneyes, but everything else was pretty distant.
