On Wednesday, Tuesday's beautiful weather was replaced by overcast skies and 17 mph winds. The result was that many small birds were hunkered down, as they were last Friday. However, the morning group encountered 39 species, and the pm saw almost as many.

Some of the morning group went on to Spurn, but they reported that it was a rather quiet with a female Red-Breasted Merganser being the only unusual bird. Shortly after they left news came of a male Red-Spotted Bluethroat and a Long-eared Owl!

On Thursday the cold wind remained at a slightly lower velocity, but at least the sun came out for lengthy periods, so it was warmer. The heat of the sun brought out a plethora of odondata - damselflies and dragonflies. This meant that our first brief sighting of a Hobby occurred as early as 10.45.

It was extremely cold when the Friday morning group started, some people even sported gloves. However, it did get warmer through the course of the session. Unfortunately, there was still no sign of the Redstarts, Tree Pipits, Meadow Pipits, and not even the song of the Skylark punctuated the relative silence of the wolds. Despite this there were some interesting sightings, and some rarities were spotted in the insect-line.
