Last week we had a grey morning at Ness End Farm were the best birds were Bittern, Kingfisher, Goldeneye, Goldcrests and Pochard. Less welcome was the deposit someone had left in the hide opposite the Hotel.
Then we had 2 days at Tophill Low. The biggest surprise here was a kronking Raven flying south along the River Hull at the start of the Thurs pm class. The Wednesday afternoon class was the only one to see 2 Woodcock. Unfortunately, the one person to miss this spectacle was Bruce. It has been his ambition to see this particular species for a very specific reason, but he chose this particular week to be absent! Other birds seen included an immature Whooper Swan, and an immature Peregrine. Plus: Cetti's Warbler, Water Rail, Stoat, Goldeneye, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Shoveler, Wigeon, Teal, Cormorant etc
