There were plenty of displaying Goldeneye on Hornsea Mere - pulling their heads rght back & then suddenly thrusting them forward, so they almost look as though they are spitting! The other birds seen were all pretty routine including: Wigeon, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Cormorants, Herring, Black-headed and Common Gulls. The woodland walk resulted in plenty of Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Mistle Thrush, Chaffinch, Stock Dove, but only one Redwings. The afternoon group were charmed by a Great Spotted Woodpecker which lasted at least 5 minutes with another bird calling in the area - the outcome of the chase was not observed. This venue is rather quiet, so another year we may visit later in the spring. Not a classic venue, although the fine display of Snowdrops & Aconites was worth seeing.
