The day started well with a "pick, pick" noise just after leaving the car park. Sure enough a few seconds later a Great Spotted Woodpecker came into view. It looked very confused as it flew around the Lighthouse probably looking for the nearest tree. It almost cetrainly had just flown over the North Sea. There were lots of Skylarks around both am & pm with some of them singing. The 1st dog-fouled path had 2 Stonechats in the afternoon, plus a singing Linnet. There were a flock of Common Scoters on the sea with plenty of Gannets, and the morning had a Purple Sandpiper among Oystercatchers, Redshank, Curlew and Great Black Backed Gulls on the beach. Some of the fields were heaving with Meadow Pipits & Skylarks in the am, but these had all vacated that area by the afternoon. We made it to Old Fall Plantation where there was a flighty, but noisy Brambling, and at least 5 Goldcrests, but still no bonking couple. There were quite a few Redwings & Fiedfares flying through as well as Blackbirds, Robins & Song Thrushes. There were also brief views of a leaf warbler, and a strange call I didn't recognise, so it's possible there was something more interesting about. However, it was a lot better day than Friday, but I'm glad to see the back of this location for another year - it's the slow drivers around there who really get on my wick. There was one driving at 30 mph in an unlimited zone, but I couldn't pass them because of the twists & turns plus traffic coming the other way. They shouldn't be on the roads!!! Rant over!

If a GSW can come in off the sea, makes you hopeful a middle spotted or black may turn up one day!
