Grey Wagtail (c) 2009 Marcus Conway
There's no doubt that the bird of the morning was a Grey Wagtail feeding near a pair of Pied Wagtails. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get a decent picture, so thanks to Marcus Conway for permitting us to share one of his. It was the first one I've ever seen on the Wassand Estate in Hornsea. We saw several Great Spotted Woodpeckers and heard one drumming, but there was no sign of the Treecreeper or the Pink-footed Geese of the other day. At the Mere we saw 4 Gull species: Great Black-Backed, Herring, Common & Black-headed. As always at this time of year, there were several Goldeneye. The afternoon class was cancelled because gales & heavy rain were supposed to have arrived by 1pm even on the East coast, but at 6pm, I'm still waiting for the heavy rain!
