Tuesday Spring 5 - Leven Canal

Reed Warbler

Sedge Warbler

4-Spotted Chaser
Cardinal Beetle
Speckled Wood
Yellowhammer - note rusty rump
The birding highlight today was a pair of Cuckoos, unfortunately no pics, unless someone else took one! There must have been nearly 10 singing male Reed Warblers - but apart from the visible nest-building on the far side of the water this afternoon, we weren't privileged with great views away from the reeds. There were fewer Sedge Warblers, and one of which was an especially confiding individual for this species. There was one stretch of the waterway which was particularly rich in damselflies and dragonflies - we identified 4-Spotted Chaser, Large Red Damselfly & Blue-tailed Damselfly. Butterflies included Speckled Wood, Orange-Tip, Peacock, Green-Veined White & Small White.
